The giant metal column of the bullet kept changing shape as the distance of its flight grew. The clinging lightning and the friction against the air at such velocity generated terrifying heat, and the metal's outer skin swiftly became plasma; that unstable form, bound within the magnetic field, was made controllable, and with mana — that higher, all-purpose source of energy and catalyst — the railgun displayed a sheer kinetic force that made the heart quail.
The instant the four fled, the first five bullets fired struck their predetermined points with perfect accuracy. After the blasts, unbroken waves of energy impact squeezed their escape space exactly as Adam had calculated in advance. Their quasi-elemental state did not hold out even a single second under that onslaught; they hung motionless in the air as though struck by a holding spell.
The second batch of five bullets followed right behind.
