“You pitiful weakling. Get out and die. Come alone, even if you have to crawl.”
As if they’d agreed on it beforehand, Rem used his tongue instead of his axe to corner Ragna.
“Cough.”
Ragna, who had been about to speak, raised a hand amid a cough and flashed his middle finger, responding with a curse carrying the continent’s long tradition. Rem nodded as if he’d made up his mind.
“Captain, now’s the time. Cut off his head. Right now we could do it clean, no trouble at all.”
He mimed slicing his own neck with a hand blade as he spoke. Just listening, it sounded like Enkrid and Rem had conspired to kill Ragna no matter what. As soon as Rem arrived, he’d insulted Ragna without even asking what happened, and when asked about his end, he said he’d let one of the two knights slip.
Hearing that, Jacksen snorted. He even let out a deliberate deflating puff, clearly mocking. Enkrid would’ve bet at least a finger, if not his wrist, on that.
“Let’s kill that bastard too.”
Rem egged Enkrid on to kill them all, but of course Enkrid wasn’t about to listen.
“Finn, go ahead and report the situation. We’ll join the main unit as is.”
“Yes!”
Finn half-ignored what they said, forgetting even the terror Jacksen inspired and his questions about the situation.
Why?
