The bones dug up from the grave were not a dwarf's. Balkan asked me.
"Did he... know someone would come looking for it someday and swap it out in advance?"
It was an incident from hundreds of years ago, so he seemed to assume the culprit was already dead. I replied immediately.
"No. That's not it."
These bones are so new that you could believe they were made 70 years ago at the earliest, or even just now at the latest. The proof is the carbon isotopes in the skeletal remains.
"Isotopes... just like you mentioned in the lab last time. I don't know exactly what you're talking about, but I'll trust you for now."
"I'll investigate a bit more as well."
A difference of hundreds of years can be identified with carbon isotopes, but the margin of error is quite large within a ten-year span. Therefore, to know the exact age of these bones, a more 'biological' investigation is needed. Naturally, unlike with carbon isotopes... this is far from my major.
Still, I have to try. I picked up a bone fragment and pushed my detection spell to its limits. In a normal person, as they grow, their bones form growth rings as they minutely break down and regrow.
I don't know what biology majors call these growth rings... but by using my detection spell in detail, I've come to know of their existence through experience.
