When Ding Yao woke up, the ship was quiet. It was too quiet, making the distant cries from outside seem deafening.
Ding Yao sat up abruptly.
"Mom!" he shouted, "Mom! Mom!"
His vision was gone, and it felt as though he had returned to the moment he had lost his sight. A sense of indescribable fear gripped his heart.
He got out of bed, stumbling as he made his way toward the exit, but then he collided with the cabin door. It was different from home; the door was closed. Holding his throbbing head, he fumbled around the door frame until he found the button, and the door opened.
He searched the ship but couldn't find Xiao Yan or Qiao Chengyu.
There was no one, no blood, no luggage. More importantly, all the energy mines were gone.
A clear truth confronted Ding Yao, yet he refused to believe it.
After nearly a decade of being together, utterly inseparable, their bond transcended mother and son, exceeding mere romantic ties, filled with mutual possession and profound affection. How could he believe that Xiao Yan would abandon him for a man?
Even if Xiao Yan turned her back on the whole world, she would never abandon him!
He screamed hoarsely, “Xiao—Yan!”
Only echoes responded from the deck.
Ding Yao found the button and opened the deck hatch, and the cold wind rushed in.
