Her breath came in ragged gasps, her body growing heavier by the moment. The bleeding had tangled her qi and blood, making it difficult to circulate her inner energy. She had been stabbed in the back, but her quick reaction had mercifully spared her heart.
The blade had not pierced through, so she had avoided immediate death. The wound on her left shoulder was not so severe that she could not use her arm. She needed to staunch the bleeding, but there was no time.
Two Eastern Depot agents ran across the rooftops and leaped down into the path ahead. The Fiend Butcher’s eyes flashed as she kicked off the ground and charged.
“Ugh!”
She cut them down in a single breath and ducked into an alley on the left at a fork in the road. Even the squad leaders were no match for her, and rabble like these agents fell with a single stroke of her blade. They knew this too.
Yet they kept throwing themselves at her without fear. This was their purpose—to cling on like this and whittle down the enemy’s strength, no matter how little. If she kept running while bleeding like this, she would eventually collapse and die.
She had to conceal herself somewhere safe and stop the bleeding first. The Fiend Butcher rallied every last drop of her inner energy, kicked off the ground, and soared high. As she vaulted over the wall, she glanced back.
