Having gained highly condensed energy and a half-elementalized body, the envoys — who had never been Adam's match one on one to begin with — now looked even more hopeless.
Because building the energy net had forced them to spread out, they could not even manage that trick of merging their energy beams anymore.
Seeing Adam come for them, the few envoys who had not chosen to self-detonate suddenly grabbed up handfuls of the concentrated flesh and blood and stuffed them into their mouths. Adam had never seen what happened when someone ate radioactive matter straight, but now he saw.
Their whole bodies began to mutate. Internal tissue proliferated and burst out through their skin, fleshy buds sprouting at random until they seemed covered in tentacles, while their bodies kept shriveling away until each was a sphere. They had been horrifying before, but still humanoid; now they were nothing but monsters.
The tentacles split open, and one disgusting mouth after another kept opening and snapping shut, baring their fangs as they bit at Adam. At the same time, energy beams came shooting out of those mouths, each one thin as a needle, but so dense they blotted out the sky.
