"It's obvious the Spire has caught on to what's wrong with this trial. Final Battle is the last chance being handed to everyone. At a time like this, instead of going looking for trouble, we'd do better to grab this last chance to rake in merit points." Lilith had called the team to a halt the moment she saw the mission, and she announced it to them all at full voice.
Among the trial apprentices who had come spoiling for a fight with Adam, dissenting voices began to be heard.
The mission the Spire had issued gave apprentices still far short of merit points a chance to make the grade at the last moment. At this point, hunting down the mastermind no longer mattered — and that was true not only of ordinary trial apprentices, but of the elites of the War League as well.
Among the newly promoted Mages whose peaches the devil had plucked back when the three great families were being wiped out, one said furiously, "No one humiliates us like that — humiliates the War League. Whoever he is, he pays the price for it!"
