The story goes that the Real Person (Zhenren) and the Bodhisattva, accompanied by a few others, journeyed into the Southern Jambudvipa, intending to head towards Xuzhou.
Along the way, the two carefully observed everything they passed and knew at once that the aura of the Song dynasty was waning and fading.
As they rode the clouds through mist and fog, the Bull Demon King followed the Real Person’s gaze and looked down below.
Yet he saw nothing obviously changed.
Lowering his voice, he asked, “Master, I have a question, and I wonder if you might explain it to me.”
The Real Person stopped the cloud and smiled gently. “Since I brought you out with me, it’s with the purpose of teaching you to cultivate and gain experience. Tell me, what troubles you? I will do my best to clear your doubts.”
The Bull Demon King said, “Master, how do you and the Bodhisattva observe whether the fate energy of Southern Jambudvipa has changed or not? Surely this must require great dharma power to perceive, isn’t that right?”
The Real Person smiled and replied, “If one has great dharma power, it only makes things easier. But to observe the fate energy, one doesn’t necessarily need great dharma power. All that’s required is the Dharma Eye, and with that, one can see clearly.”
