Some of the nobles had never even seen Enkrid in person, and to them, everything that happened in the Border Guard was a distant tale.
Green Pearl?
They’ve taken that land now? He stopped an army alone? Not wiped them out, just… stopped them?
Does an army halt just because someone says to back off? Does that even make sense? Some rumors sounded too far-fetched, and others, while realistic, simply had nothing to do with them.
They’d heard he’d ended the civil war, and that he carried the fearsome title of demon slayer, but those words never really touched many of them. Among them were those genuinely worried about the royal family, nobles who sought to check Enkrid’s power, and some who simply sat there with no thought at all.
In any case, they all fell silent at Krang’s words. For just because he smiled did not mean he meant them any kindness. And so, with that single remark, after plunging the assembly into silence, Krang rose from his seat.
Krang could have raged at everyone watching.
“Is that what you say to the hero who ended the civil war, the hero who guarded the border? I’m so ashamed I want to shove my face into the washbasin and drown myself.”
Or he could have persuaded them one by one.
“Enkrid is not that kind of man. He is my friend, a sword that guards the royal family. Of this, I will give my guarantee.”
