After evacuating all the victims of the beastman illegal experimentation. I scanned each person’s body one by one with a detection spell, just in case anything was amiss.
“Strange,” I muttered.
“Is there a problem, brother?”
“Well... there are things inside these people’s bodies that don’t belong to them.”
To put it plainly, something from a magical beast is mixed in. I don’t know the species, but it’s composed of eight-base genes, not four, so that much is certain. At my words, the blood drained from Sol’s face.
“...Were they subjected to chimera experiments?”
“If they had been, they’d have died within days. It’s not that crude.”
In this world, alchemists who create chimeras crop up from time to time. But those things die within days or weeks, so no one can milk research funding out of them. That’s because if a chimera dies during the review period, the results become unverifiable.
In other words, no one ends up fusing their own daughter with a dog in the name of making a chimera. All hail the Magic Tower.
“The only exception is Iapetus.”
That bastard discovered protein structures stable enough for synthesis to use the key-sword instead of AlphaFold, and wove his own body from scratch using their combinations.
“Then is this case connected to him as well?”
“No. This is far cruder, yet natural.”
