In a subterranean research lab at the edge of the Iron Mountains, two guards sat at the watch post at the end of the hallway, killing their boredom.
"Ugh... still four hours until the next shift."
The feline beastman guard asked his companion, "Got any interesting stories?"
"Interesting?"
The massive crocodile beastman guard, sprawled out beside him, rolled his eyes and glanced around before speaking.
"You know the chair I regret buying the most?"
"Which one?"
The crocodile beastman tapped the armrest of the chair he was slouched on and grinned slyly.
"This one, because it's an armrest-and-peace kinda deal."
"Ah, screw you."
"What? Come on, that was a little funny—" Just then.
Kyaaaaaak—!
A scream echoed from the far end of the corridor.
"...What was that?"
"Damn, scared the hell outta me. Alright. Punishment for your lousy joke—you go check it out."
The feline beastman bristled and shoved the crocodile beastman’s back. The crocodile beastman furrowed his brow and grumbled as he rose from his seat.
"Tch, fine. Big brother’s on it."
Gripping his iron truncheon tightly, the crocodile beastman slowly stepped toward the darkened alley where the sound had come from. His words were bold, but inside, he was pretty damn nervous.
‘What now?’
