As the seminar drew to a close, the time for the joint research presentation arrived. The murmuring from the researchers of other departments in the lecture hall grew louder.
"The time has come. Have you heard any rumors about the presentation's content?"
"I doubt it. Whatever it is, it won't be a peaceful affair."
The crowd was anticipating a competitive show between the two schools. Amidst the commotion, Gwendolyn smiled and spoke to the general ecology school head sitting next to her.
"Everyone seems to expect a conflict."
"..."
"But you knew that wasn't the case, didn't you, School Head? That's why you made your move first."
"..."
The general ecology school head had obstructed Professor Ernst, fearing that a new school would be founded at the end of this presentation. His calculation was likely that if Ernst were absent from an event watched by so many mages, his reputation would be tarnished, and the plan to split the school would lose momentum.
At least, that was what Gwendolyn surmised.
"Why are you the only one who doesn't realize that Ernst himself has no great desire to split the school?"
"...How would an outsider like you know that?"
"Sir Isaac never keeps greedy people by his side."
"..."
The general ecology school head remained silent for a moment before speaking.
