The crow-kin mage Ihan had never seen before picked up the straw doll with both arms and set it down.
“It looks roughly made, but it’s been magically treated. It’s a sturdy thing.”
Dark element had powerful, peculiar properties, but it wasn’t an element that just took to anything.
Even water element, which was relatively easy to handle, could make things waterproof; dark element, on the other hand, often took longer to find an object that would accept it.
Its strength and its opposition to vital energy made it a hindrance in this process.
That was why even a sloppy-looking straw doll had to undergo proper magical treatment.
“Of course, even so, it takes a long while. You have to soak it in dark element dozens of times,” the crow-kin said.
To those who didn’t know magic, it looked flashy, but in truth magic was mostly tedious repetition and groundwork.
Making a simple cursed straw doll took far longer than people imagined.

Ihan swung his staff and called the dark element.
Because the straw doll was right in front of him, it was easier than usual.
He didn’t need to temper the force; he simply drew the dark element straight into the doll and let it absorb.
