Kettle couldn’t hold it in any longer and started cursing.
Professor Verdus protested at his disciple’s rude behavior.
“You’re the one being rude!”
“Rude? You’re the rude one! What kind of compensation is that?!”
“It’s compensation!”
“If we’re being strict about words, that isn’t compensation…”
When Wodhanaz muttered that from the side, Professor Verdus jumped in shock.
“Not compensation?! Why not!?”
“Uh… um…” Wodhanaz hesitated, wondering how to explain.
For an ordinary person it would be simple (and then there’d be no need to explain at all), but Professor Verdus was not someone who would understand a plain answer.
“You see, compensation depends on whether the recipient needs it or not. No matter how great an item, if it’s useless to the person receiving it, it doesn’t count as compensation.”
“But everyone wants a chance to work in my workshop, don’t they?”
Kettle clutched the back of his neck and looked like he might keel over.
Still, Wodhanaz’s born patience was not shaken by Verdus’s nonsense.
He answered calmly.
“Even if I worked in your workshop, my ability is lacking right now, so I wouldn’t be able to make good use of it.”
“Ah! I see!” Professor Verdus immediately accepted that explanation.
Compared to other dull students Wodhanaz might be a bit better, but beside Verdus he was still a pitiable pupil with a lot to learn.
