“This place hasn’t changed a bit, has it?”
“No matter if ten years pass, it won’t change. That’s the good thing about a countryside village.”
The three men’s gazes fell upon the village, covered in white from several days of snowfall.
Baek Su-ryong, looking at his hometown after a year away, was filled with deep feelings.
“It’s not that long ago... but it feels like I’m coming back after so many years.”
“You’re just too caught up with your life, that’s all.”
Behind the two, Mae Geuk-ryeom quietly walked with his hands clasped behind his back.
The elderly man’s eyes carried complex emotions as he looked around the village where his daughter had settled with her husband, gave birth to a child, and spent her final days.
“…It’s a good village. The air is clean, the energy pure—no wonder that child liked it here.”
“The people are good, too. All kind-hearted and full of warmth. Father-in-law would surely like it.”
As the three men approached the village, farmers and villagers who had come out early to work recognized them and came forward.
“Isn’t that Master Baek Mugwan! You’re back?”
“And isn’t that Su-ryong standing next to him? My goodness, you’ve grown so tall I almost didn’t recognize you!”
“What? The Baek family is back?”
