“I killed every last one of them.”
The bastard who boasted about murdering people with his own mouth, and the ones who snickered along with his story. All of them.
“I severed their tendons and tore apart the mouths that screamed for mercy. They were nothing special. It felt utterly hollow.”
The moment he confirmed that it was a death he could have easily prevented if only he had stayed in the cave, an overwhelming sense of exhaustion washed over him. He had wished, rather, that they had been foes beyond his power.
If they had been, then at least it would have been a death he couldn’t have stopped, and the guilt might have been lighter.
“After killing them like that, I stood there for a long time.”
Once he had avenged himself upon them, Seop Mugwang’s purpose vanished. Now Seop Mugwang no longer knew where to go or what to do. His hometown was gone, and there was no one left to protect.
As he stood there dazed for a long while, another group appeared, seemingly comrades of those he had killed.
“They rushed at me without a word. If they were the same ilk, I had no reason to hesitate. But, do you know who was among them?”
Seop Mugwang let out a chuckle and asked the question. Seolhwa shook her head. She couldn’t even guess who it might be, but seeing his frozen gaze, one thing was certain.
