Yan Mo and the others rode their horses along the Virtue River, heading downstream. This time, the flood was caused by their uncle Yan Jingsi's pet flood dragon, which was about to transform. It had escaped from the Dragon Raising Pool in the Black Tortoise Pavilion and was heading down the river, causing floods and drowning some of the riverbank residents to collect souls for cultivation.
Uncle Yan Jingsi had moved to Thunder County ten years ago and was very fond of this flood dragon, naming it Shangshan, meaning "the highest good is like water," hoping it would understand his benevolent heart towards the people.
Even though the name Shangshan was well-chosen, the dragon was mischievous. Such incidents had happened before, and Uncle had been very angry, scolding Shangshan for a long time.
It was only after Yan Rong and the others pleaded and made Uncle laugh by acting silly that he calmed down and didn't punish Shangshan further.
Because of this, Shangshan had a good relationship with Yan Rong and the others, often using its dragon core to help them refine their bodies, spirits, and True Qi, and teaching them Daoist techniques.
They benefited greatly from this, and their bond with Shangshan grew stronger.
