How do you build a city from the ground up in a hostile region?
In a world without supernatural power, with technology still backward, the answer would probably be that it's flat-out impossible. But to Adam as he was now, building a city was not difficult at all.
Adam released the ice sealing the snow worm heads, slipped two lengths of tough elemental thread around them, and drove them underground like ordinary livestock, setting them to loosening the earth like earthworms and digging out the foundation.
Adam decided the snow worms were perfectly suited to this job. Digging pits with them meant he didn't have to deal with the excavated ice at all, because they ate it straight down — and better still, as they ate, the two heads split off from a single snow worm were growing apart into two separate snow worms!
