Lina was impatient. Adam had set her a deadline of two days, but she had cut it to one when she passed the order down. The slaves thought it strange that their master should be in such a hurry, but none of them dared ask.
And so, by noon the next day, Adam had the maps he had asked for ahead of time.
Except the maps did not come close to meeting any standard at all. Adam stared at Lina, at a loss for words, then pointed at the map and asked, "What's this triangle? And this circle, this square... Are you sure this is a map and not just scribbling?"
Adam realized he had still overestimated this pack of alien races. They did not understand even the most basic geography. On the Mage Continent, any apprentice — no, even a knight — had the common sense to draw a map, and yet what these forest elves handed him was nothing but waste paper.
Lina was dumbfounded by the question. She took the map back, uncomprehending, and explained, "This is the main peak where Lord Okov lives, this is a lake not far from the main peak, this is the wetland tribe's village..." When she finished she looked at Adam with an innocent face. "It's very clear."
