The midday sun shone brightly.
Outside the medical hall, four sedan bearers slowly lifted Zhang Zhuo's dark red official sedan, merging into the flow of people on Anxi Street.
Inside the medical hall, a faint fragrance wafted through the air.
Bai Li leaned against the counter, looking out the door and asking, "I think I saw Zhang Zhuo, Lord Zhang. Why did he peek in and leave in such a hurry when he saw us?"
Chen Ji was putting the chess pieces back into the chess box one by one.
"Lord Zhang said he had a banquet to attend at noon, so he left first."
Bai Li was puzzled.
"Did Lord Zhang come specifically to see you? Was he trying to persuade you to return to the Chen family?"
Chen Ji was equally confused.
"No, it seemed like he came to persuade me not to go back..."
Bai Li exclaimed, "Huh?"
Just then, the young master who had just climbed over the wall walked in, dusting off his clothes as he teased, "Maybe Lord Zhang has taken a liking to your talents and wants to recruit you to work in the government office."
"Can you become an official without taking the imperial exams?"
The young master laughed.
