#169 Sir, are you alright?
‘Ah...’
When I opened my eyes, the unfamiliar ceiling of a hotel came into view. Maybe because I drank too much, my throat was parched. I gulped down the water on the table and got up, heading to the bathroom.
As I ran cold water over my head, I replayed my conversations with Jang Seong-taek and Wen Jiabao from the day before.
‘Meeting the powerful figures of two nations... I can hardly believe it.’
Even after finishing the shower, my thoughts remained tangled. When I returned to the bedroom, Section Chief Ma was waiting with a cup of honey water.
“The intoxication suddenly hit me and I don’t remember anything. Did you carry me up, Section Chief?”
“Yes, Boss.”
“Did anything happen while I was asleep?”
Taking the empty cup, Section Chief Ma nodded slightly and answered.
“The U.S. ambassador reached out. He said he’d like to meet before you return to Korea.”
“The U.S. ambassador?”
Before coming to China, I had given a heads-up to the Secretary of State through Han Gyeong-yeong. It was practically a notification, but... I figured it was something the U.S. side would care about.
“Yes. He suggested dinner.”
“Then we can leave after dinner. Did Wen Jiabao contact us?”
“No, not yet.”
