Eternal Night of Dread

Chapter 5 Night Demon

8 min read

Wu Pifu strode towards the nunnery, and halfway there, his eyes suddenly narrowed, and he began to dash forward frantically.

In the pitch-black night, a red glow unexpectedly appeared!

This was ancient times; the dynasty could not be confirmed for now, but there was certainly no electricity or lamps.

Moreover, this was not some ancient super metropolis, so it was impossible to have such a strong light source at night...

A fire broke out!?

Or perhaps...

Wu Pifu's expression turned grim as he quickened his pace towards the nunnery.

When he arrived a hundred meters from the nunnery's entrance, Wu Pifu's face was ashen.

This light was both the light of fire and the light of blood, as well as the sinister aura of a nightmare.

Indeed, that second-level Nightmare was close behind.

Even if it had arrived in the world of baseline reality 0.7, its power would be greatly diminished, yet it remained an unfathomable terror for mortals.

If it was hiding within this nunnery, not far from him, then when it erupted, the entire nunnery would instantly become a slaughterhouse!

What had this second-level Nightmare transformed into?

As a second-level Nightmare from baseline reality 0.8, arriving in the world of baseline reality 0.7, it would weaken due to the bizarre dilution and must find its anchoring object in this world, perhaps a tree, a stone, a corpse, or a fox—an object closest to its original attributes to anchor itself.

Wu Pifu was certain that this second-level Nightmare must be anchored within this nunnery!

The question now was... what should he do!?

This was a Nightmare, a second-level Nightmare.

Even if it had weakened due to a one-level difference in the world, it was not something he could contend with at this moment!

But... but!

Wu Pifu's rational mind kept telling him to run, to escape as far as possible.

In a dream world, as long as one did not die, even without establishing a sanctuary, as long as one stayed for five days, they could locate the main brain, allowing the main brain to guide them back to reality.

He had already been in this world for three days; if he could just endure for two more days, he could return...

Right now, he was missing an arm, and due to insufficient food, his body was weak.

He might still show off against ordinary people, but facing a Nightmare...

Rationality told him that charging in would mean certain death, and a gruesome one at that; his corpse and even his consciousness might never find release.

But... but!

That little mute girl had saved his life!

That drop of tear falling from her not-so-pretty face...

"Ah... ah!!"

Wu Pifu roared, stamping his foot hard, and his whole body lunged low as he charged into the nunnery.

Upon entering the nunnery's square, his first sight was of a nearly two-meter tall, dark, muscular man.

This man had dark skin, bulging muscles, and numerous cracks on his skin, as if his body had grown taller in a short time, stretching his skin and revealing a lot of muscle fibers underneath.

Most terrifyingly, this man had horns on his head, short but unmistakably horned!

This muscular man looked just like a Night Demon from mythology!

At this moment, many buildings in the nunnery were ablaze, with blood and severed limbs everywhere.

On the platform in front of the main hall, a pile of corpses mixed with a few living people were skinned and piled together by this Night Demon-like man.

Wu Pifu did not know whether the little mute girl was dead or had been skinned alive and stuffed among the corpses.

The Night Demon man held a struggling body in his hand.

Hearing the commotion behind him, he slowly turned his head, his hands still moving as he continued to tear the skin from the body.

The Night Demon man surprisingly spoke in a refined manner: "I must thank you, friend."

Wu Pifu said nothing, merely standing his ground, one hand clawed and pointed forward.

The Night Demon man continued, "I have long heard that there are strange beings, gods, and immortals in this world, but I have only heard of them and never seen them with my own eyes. I did not expect that thanks to you, I would gain such a great opportunity, ha ha ha! Rest assured, friend, I will carefully skin you to create a fine body for my Buddha and ancestors!"

Wu Pifu looked at the horrific scene in the nunnery, the human slaughterhouse before him, his eyes gradually filled with blood.

He coldly asked, "Among those you killed, is there a thin, small, mute girl?"

The Night Demon man scratched his little horn and laughed heartily, "All of them! They are everywhere!"

Wu Pifu stopped speaking, his gaze fixed on the Night Demon man, his feet shifting slightly as he adjusted his stance.

The Night Demon man, however, paid no heed, laughing loudly as he strode towards Wu Pifu, his hands reaching out.

This posture was entirely unrefined, but the Night Demon man was at least a head taller than Wu Pifu, his body much larger.

Standing over two meters tall, he looked like a bear, and his arm span exceeded Wu Pifu's reach.

There was no need for any technique; it was a direct physical crush... if he were just facing an ordinary person.

But Wu Pifu was not an ordinary person; he was a practitioner of National Martial Arts!

As the Night Demon man quickly approached, arms outstretched to crush him, Wu Pifu suddenly kicked up with one foot, sending the sand and stones on the ground flying towards the Night Demon man's face.

The Night Demon man instinctively raised his arm to block, squinting his eyes for a moment.

In that split second, Wu Pifu lowered his body, leaping forward like a fierce tiger pouncing on its prey, covering five meters in an instant, and in the blink of an eye, he was at the Night Demon man's side.

With a claw, he struck under the Night Demon man's armpit, not bothering to look at the result, immediately following the shadow and circling behind the Night Demon man.

The Night Demon man instinctively turned to look at Wu Pifu, but all he saw was Wu Pifu's retreating figure.

The blind spot in his peripheral vision caused him to lose his target for an instant.

Just then, he felt a tearing sensation from behind, and the Night Demon man quickly turned his head to look back, but his body remained facing the position where he had just confronted Wu Pifu.

At the moment the Night Demon man's head turned, a shadow flashed across his retina, followed by a soft pop.

One of his eyeballs, along with half of his face, was clawed out, and as he saw that claw retract, it came down again, aimed directly at his throat!

"Ah!"

The Night Demon man let out a loud roar, his skin starting to show a terrifying dark blue color, and his body actually swelled up again.

His speed became astonishingly fast, and as his arms twisted, he struck against Wu Pifu's claw, producing a crisp sound.

This heart-pulling strike was interrupted, and his entire hand bone cracked.

Wu Pifu immediately retreated three to four meters, his hand throbbing with pain, causing his whole body to tremble.

Upon closer inspection, his palm had twisted into a spiral shape, with bone shards protruding from his wrist, clearly indicating that his hand had suffered a comminuted fracture.

The Night Demon man was not in a much better state; half of his face was clawed to pieces, one eyeball and the eye socket were torn out, leaving his face looking like a horrific ghost, the kind that wouldn’t need makeup for a horror movie.

But at that moment, black sludge began to ooze from the Night Demon man's wound, gradually sealing the injury.

Although it did not turn into flesh and blood, what flowed out was certainly not blood!

"Ha, ha ha, delightful, truly delightful!"

The Night Demon man gasped a few times and actually laughed out loud, his remaining eye staring at Wu Pifu, then shaking his head, "What a fine skill! Your flesh is perfect for becoming my master's法身!"

As he spoke, the Night Demon man charged at Wu Pifu again, his speed more than doubled from before.

With a crash, the wind howled, and Wu Pifu barely had time to lower his body slightly before he was slammed into the Night Demon man's embrace.

The immense force sent Wu Pifu rolling forward, while the Night Demon man, upon making contact, scooped him up—one hand grabbing Wu Pifu's back, the other reaching for his groin.

This was not a random flailing but a genuine attacking posture, a form of sumo wrestling.

Once he secured his grip, the next move would flip Wu Pifu upside down, smashing his head into the ground, leading to either unconsciousness or a fatal cranial explosion.

At this life-and-death moment, the demonic thoughts, distractions, and malevolent intentions surged within Wu Pifu.

His eyes turned crimson, and he let out a tiger's roar from his mouth.

At the same time, he did not resist the Night Demon man's pulling force; instead, he stomped his feet on the ground, using the Night Demon man's own momentum to leap, twisting his body halfway around.

His legs clamped tightly around the Night Demon man's neck, leveraging the Night Demon man's force to send him flying as well.

The two of them became entangled, rolling on the ground, and with a loud crash, they smashed into a burning guesthouse, the sound of collapsing wooden walls echoing as a large section fell.

This noise startled some of the living people among the pile of corpses.

These survivors, skinned and looking like bloody monsters, included nuns and patrons, numbering around seven or eight, all wailing and rolling in agony among the corpses.

Among them was a petite woman, who was also moaning and crying.

She tried to stand up, but every part of her body ached, making it impossible for her to crawl and hold herself together.

She had no skin left on her body, and any touch sent her into excruciating pain.

As she cried and moaned helplessly, the sounds of fighting continued to come from the burning guesthouse.

She strained to look over, but could not stand.

Just then, she caught sight of the Buddha statue in the center of the main hall, illuminated by the fire, appearing incredibly sinister and terrifying.

The statue's eyes, ears, nose, and mouth were all oozing black sludge, which formed a grotesque, terrifying smile on its face.

She remembered the Night Demon who had skinned her, along with the traces of sludge in the Night Demon’s eyes, ears, nose, and mouth...

She was small, possibly not even one meter fifty tall, and pitifully thin.

At this moment, her skin had been completely stripped away.

If she were an ordinary person, she would have already rolled over, unable to think.

But somehow, she found the strength and courage to roll down from the pile of corpses, pressing her skinless flesh against the gravel ground, inching her way towards the Buddha statue in the main hall...

She...

Was going to save her man!!
