All was quiet, yet thoughts churned restlessly. Bai Xingwen couldn’t sleep. He tossed and turned ceaselessly, his knuckles having shredded the bedsheets.
A single startling glimpse, and his soul was ensnared.
“Young Master!”
“Worthless dog!”
Bai Xingwen bolted upright, grabbing the man’s shoulders with wild excitement.
“Did you find her? Which family does this beauty belong to?”
“I’ve disappointed the young master. I searched the entire Hantai Prefectural City but couldn’t locate the tall woman you described.”
Firewood Dog lowered his head in shame.
“Useless! Useless!”
Bai Xingwen erupted in fury, kicking Firewood Dog savagely until the man cowered on the floor, arms shielding his head.
“Five chi six or seven! A woman of that height! There aren’t many in all of Hantai Prefecture, and you still can’t find her? Every month I feed and house you lot, and you’re worse than a pack of dogs. Even dogs would’ve sniffed her out by now!”
Firewood Dog hurriedly said, “Young master, young master, we didn’t find her, but we do have some leads.”
“What leads?”
