Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

Chapter 33 Until Next Time

6 min read

This person is quite skilled!

Everyone wanted to step forward to greet her, but she was a girl and seemed a little shy.

“Li Yang, did that Lu Liangye really awaken more than half a year ago? You can’t be mistaken, right?” a handsome boy questioned.

“Maybe it’s just someone with the same name…” Li Yang also seemed unsure.

He had first learned about Lu Liangye because his mother had shoved a newspaper in his face, sighing repeatedly for days that it would be great if Lu Liangye were her son. After about ten days, she finally calmed down.

If it truly were that Lu Liangye, how could he possibly lose so badly?

Now that he thought about it, this Lu Liangye in front of him seemed a bit taller than what he saw in the newspaper, a little darker, and not as good-looking either…

At that moment, Lu Liangye, who was being questioned about the same name, was anxiously watching the Water Circle Catfish, asking, “Teacher, is my Water Circle Catfish okay?”

“It’s fine, it will recover soon,” Qin Wen answered.

…

From Qiao Sang’s perspective, the only female teacher in the arena came over to the Water Circle Catfish and made a hand sign, causing an orange-yellow star array to glow on the ground.

This marked her as a C-Rank Beast Master.

Of course, it was also possible that she had reached the C-Rank Beast Master level according to the Beastmaster Codex but hadn’t been assessed by the Alliance yet.

From the orange-yellow star array appeared a white creature about three meters long.

Its head was shaped like a water droplet, making it seem small in proportion to its body. It had tiny eyes and a mouth that stretched all the way to its ears, with a tongue hanging out that was about half its body length.

It approached the Water Circle Catfish and licked it from head to tail with its long, thick tongue.

But that wasn't enough. After licking, it flipped the Water Circle Catfish over and licked it all over again.

That was a bit gross…

Qiao Sang shook her head, the grogginess clearing away.

This white creature was called a Tongue-Tongue Drip. The mucus it secreted from its tongue could make external wounds heal rapidly.

If one aspires to be a doctor in the future, contracting a Tongue-Tongue Drip would certainly be a wise choice.

Under the two rounds of healing from the Tongue-Tongue Drip, the Water Circle Catfish stood back up, supporting itself on its tail and bouncing twice, obviously already in good spirits.

If it weren’t for the fact that the Water Circle Catfish looked like it had just been fished out of the water, one wouldn’t suspect it had ever been harmed.

Qiao Sang subconsciously held her Fire Tooth Dog a little tighter.

“Yah?”

The Fire Tooth Dog turned its head to look at Qiao Sang.

“It’s nothing, just relieved you’re okay,” Qiao Sang said.

“Yah~”

The Fire Tooth Dog’s wet eyes shone with gratitude.

“Just make sure you don’t get hurt in the next battle,” Qiao Sang urged sincerely.

“Yah!”

The Fire Tooth Dog nodded in assurance.

Seeing the Fire Tooth Dog's touched expression, Qiao Sang held back her last words.

“If it gets hurt, I won’t hug it anymore…”

…

The ten individuals were split into five groups for competition, and four more matches still needed to happen.

Qiao Sang looked around the arena; the next opponent could be anyone here, so she had to observe carefully.

Though she had great confidence in her Fire Tooth Dog, underestimating the enemy was a big taboo. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have let her Fire Tooth Dog wear sunglasses the moment she stepped out.

The second match featured two boys, and their beasts were already summoned.

One was a Short-tailed Snake and the other a Sand Borrowing Mouse, both common selections for newbie Beast Masters.

“Boss, who do you think will win?” a girl’s voice chimed in from the left.

Qiao Sang turned her head and saw the girl with a bob haircut who had spoken to her before the match.

“If there are no surprises, it should be the Short-tailed Snake,” Qiao Sang answered.

“Surprises you mean like you?” Zheng Yining teased.

The Short-tailed Snake naturally restrained the Sand Borrowing Mouse just as the Water Circle Catfish had an advantage over the Fire Tooth Dog, but the Fire Tooth Dog won, and it was a crushing victory. Wasn’t that a surprise?

“I’m Qiao Sang,” Qiao Sang introduced herself, wanting her to use a different title.

“Alright, Boss Qiao,” Zheng Yining nodded.

Qiao Sang: “…”

“Boss Qiao, I’m Zheng Yining,” Zheng Yining continued.

Qiao Sang: “…okay.”

The match result unfolded without any surprises, just as Qiao Sang had predicted.

The moment the Sand Borrowing Mouse sprang out of its burrow, the Short-tailed Snake’s poisonous fangs bit accurately, sending it into unconsciousness.

The third match featured Zheng Yining against a boy.

Zheng Yining's beast was a Long-eared Cat.

It had a pale pink back and tail, with a white belly. Its ears were longer than those of a regular rabbit, standing up like two antennas. Its gemstone-green eyes lazily squinted, almost melting Qiao Sang’s already few girlhood sentiments.

The boy had a Springing Pig, its body grayish-white and plump, with a pair of grayish-white wings, a beast with both Ground and Flying attributes.

“Fire Tooth Dog, who do you think will win?” Qiao Sang asked.

The Fire Tooth Dog was lazily watching the match but turned serious upon hearing the question, carefully examining the two beasts that had already begun their battle.

After considering, it chose the Springing Pig, which looked bigger and could fly.

Sixteen minutes later, the Springing Pig lay on the ground unable to get up.

“Yah.”

The Fire Tooth Dog let out a frustrated yelp.

It actually misjudged.

“Even though the Springing Pig looks stronger, it has a clear weakness: it lacks stamina and is slow. As long as you draw it out slowly, it will tire out over time. Look at how the Long-eared Cat first avoids its attacks and waits until the Springing Pig's energy is depleted before striking back,” Qiao Sang explained to the Fire Tooth Dog.

“Yah.”

The Fire Tooth Dog widened its eyes, listening.

So that’s how it was!

In the fourth and fifth matches, the victors were both boys, with the beasts being a Little Plump Dove and a Tracing Bee.

Qiao Sang recalled the matches she had just seen and thought about the opponents she might encounter next.

True enough… not much of a threat…

Qiao Sang quickly shook her head, realizing her thoughts.

She had just promised not to underestimate anyone…

One out of the five who lost still needed to be decided.

The competition didn’t last long at all, ending in a one-sided manner just as Qiao Sang had anticipated.

The one who emerged victorious was Lu Liangye.

Now Li Yang no longer doubted that this Lu Liangye wasn’t the one from his mother’s talks.

He completely dominated the competition, outperforming the other four without a hint of the earlier dreadful match.

It seemed the problem lay with that girl…

Li Yang secretly prayed as he watched the girl approach casually.

Please, don’t let him face her first!

He still wished to be in the top three!

As Qiao Sang stepped onto the arena, Lu Liangye walked over and declared fiercely, “Next time we meet, I won’t lose!”

Qiao Sang responded playfully, “I hope so.”

Lu Liangye: “…”

He felt she was looking down on him, but he had no evidence.

Just like last time, they drew lots to form teams based on matching numbers.

Once Qiao Sang drew her lot, she took a look—it was number one.

A good number.

A lucky number.

“Who is number one?” Qin Wen asked.

“I am,” said Lu Liangye.

“And me,” Qiao Sang added.

Everyone turned to look.

Lu Liangye: “…!”

Though he mentioned meeting again, there was no need to do so so soon!
