Beast Taming: Starting From Zero

Chapter 14 I Want to Take Leave

6 min read

Qiao Sang looked at Dai Shushu for two seconds, then smiled, "Yes, do you have other matters to attend to?"

Dai Shushu narrowed her eyes slightly and shook her head, "No."

Qiao Sang turned and went back to the classroom.

Just as she sat down, Fang Sisi leaned closer. "What did Dai Shushu say to you? You look so pale."

"Does my face really look that bad?" Qiao Sang asked.

"Yeah, you look so serious it scared me," Fang Sisi teased.

If there was a mirror, Qiao Sang thought she would have a look.

Fang Sisi then asked, "What did she need you for?"

"Nothing much," Qiao Sang said as she picked up her book again.

Fang Sisi wanted to ask more, but seeing Qiao Sang's face, which showed she didn’t want to continue the conversation, she decided to keep quiet.

When the morning classes ended, Qiao Sang packed up her things and went to the office of the third-grade class.

"Teacher, I need to take leave," Qiao Sang said, staring at the teacher’s thick hair.

The homeroom teacher suddenly stood up.

There was also another female teacher in the office, and her gaze immediately turned towards Qiao Sang.

The homeroom teacher tried to control his temper. "Do you know what you're saying? The high school entrance exam is just a few days away, and you want to take leave? I haven’t even had you write a self-reflection for that time you skipped class."

Qiao Sang replied earnestly, "Teacher, if you don’t grant me leave, then I’ll just skip class again; I’ll write the self-reflection later."

The homeroom teacher's temples bulged with anger. "Do your family members know about this leave?"

Qiao Sang didn’t answer.

The teacher took a deep breath, sat back down, and spoke earnestly, "If you don't want your mother to come to school again, just go back and attend your classes. Last time, the teacher misunderstood you, but even if you’ve awakened your own abilities, you can't neglect your studies. The exam is coming up soon."

Qiao Sang smiled, "The last time my mother came to school, you were here too, teacher."

The homeroom teacher paused for a moment and replied, "I asked your mother to come to school and explain about your skipping class."

Qiao Sang tilted her head and asked, "Why did you send my mother away?"

The homeroom teacher froze, his expression complicated. He thought perhaps it was Qiao Sang's mother who told her, and he didn't know how to respond.

He shared the office with the homeroom teacher of Class Nine.

That day, Dai Shushu and her mother happened to come to school at the same time as Qiao Sang’s mother. Dai Shushu had just been awarded a spot at Holy Water Middle School, and the head of the department had also come to congratulate her.

The attention of the office was focused on Class Nine.

At that time, Qiao Sang's mother explained that her daughter was just happy after awakening her abilities to contract a companion beast and forgot to take leave.

The kids can lie, but adults always tend to be more reasonable, so he naturally believed her.

This should have been a happy thing, but then everyone in the office turned their attention to it. A few questions later, all of Qiao Sang's secrets were revealed.

Dai Shushu's mother sneered a few times, and that led Qiao Sang's mother to get into an argument with her.

Dai Shushu cried on the side.

As the school’s favorite, she couldn’t let her feel wronged, so the head of the department told Qiao Sang's mother to leave.

The homeroom teacher considered himself a decent teacher. He didn’t know much about handling relationships; he worked diligently, and after over twenty years, became a homeroom teacher.

In those years, his youthful ambitions had all faded away. He didn’t dare to speak up when the parents of his students were treated unfairly.

But he also felt he did nothing wrong, he just watched from the sidelines, and there was no need to explain these events to a child.

The homeroom teacher paused before saying, "It wasn’t sending her away, it was asking her to calm down."

Qiao Sang chuckled, "I understand, but that request made my mother fall sick. You know my family situation, I am the only one who can take care of my mother."

Once he heard that, the teacher’s energy faded. "How long are you going to be on leave?"

Qiao Sang replied, "Until my mother gets better."

The homeroom teacher hesitated for a moment and said, "You need to come back soon; the entrance exam is just around the corner."

Qiao Sang nodded and turned to leave.

Watching her back, the teacher felt uneasy and reminded her once more, "You need to study well at home; the exam is coming soon. As soon as your mother feels better, hurry back."

Qiao Sang turned her head and said with a smile, "Teacher, your wig is askew."

The homeroom teacher: "..."

The female teacher: "..."

...

Hanggang Xiangzhen Beast Battle Club.

"How much does your club charge for a junior practice opponent for a day?"

"Hello, our practice opponents are charged by the hour. For a junior, it’s 1000 Alliance Coins per hour, but if you book for a full day, we can give you a 2% discount," the receptionist said with a smile.

The Beast Battle Club can provide different training partners based on customer needs. As a popular industry in today's society, they have covered many neighborhoods.

In some listed Beast Battle Clubs, if you can afford it, you can even find a practice partner who is an S-level Beast Master, but there aren’t many clubs like that.

This was the fifth club Qiao Sang had visited.

The reason she had searched so many beast battle clubs was simple.

She didn’t have enough money...

Qiao Sang patted her pockets, which contained only a little money, and silently walked out, carrying her Fire Tooth Dog.

She felt a bit lost, unsure of where to go.

Initially, she had a laid-back attitude toward Holy Water Middle School; as long as she could pass the special enrollment, it would be great. If it didn’t work out, she still had Hanggang Sixth Beastmaster Middle School as a backup, so it wasn’t a big deal.

But now, she really wanted to get into this school.

The special enrollment exam for Holy Water Middle School was in ten days, and with her current level, it was uncertain whether she could even meet the minimum score for the entrance exam.

To be accepted, the second to fifth place scorers had to score at least 50 points higher than the minimum score; Qiao Sang was not confident.

Given that situation, her only choice was to aim for first place in the special enrollment exam, which would allow her to meet the minimum score for the entrance exam.

Having made this decision, she needed to start training her Fire Tooth Dog immediately.

Although the Fire Tooth Dog was a fire-type companion beast with strong attack power, it was still a pup with little combat experience. The last time they won so easily was due to a 2v1 situation and the opponent's slow reactions.

If she went into the special enrollment exam like this, it would be nearly impossible to aim for first place.

With only ten days left, spending all her time at school would be a waste; she could self-study while training her Fire Tooth Dog.

She had a golden opportunity; through battles, she could increase her Fire Tooth Dog's combat strength in a short time.

Qiao Sang had thought everything out well, but once she stepped outside, she felt lost again.

There were many competitions and venues for beast battles now, but they had many requirements. Some competitions required the level of the Beast Master.

Beast competitions also aimed to earn viewership and ticket sales. Most rookie Beast Masters only had a single primary-level beast, and their matchups would be lackluster; viewers wouldn't find it entertaining.

Naturally, there wouldn't be enough organizers willing to lose money on such events.

Qiao Sang checked and found that the next competition in Hanggang City that allowed F-level Beast Masters to participate was on June 30.

The timing was quite appropriate, as all the third-year students would finish their entrance exams by then, and those who were set to contract their beasts would have already done so.

A large crowd of newly qualified Beast Masters would surely sign up.

And alongside them, their parents, school teachers, and various friends and relatives would form a solid support base. This meant the viewership would likely be high.
