TITLE: How Much Are They Paying? How Much Are They Paying? When something beyond wondrous, something bordering on the mystical, occurs, there is always a reason to match it.
‘Does the saintess have an aide?’
No. Then there was only one answer. The saintess—whether labeled a fugitive or a deserter—was managing to flee quite well on her own. But did that make any sense?
She was just a child. It was said that the abilities of both saints and saintesses manifested in childhood. Since that came from Audin, it was certain.
Enkrid pictured the child in his mind. For some reason, Anne’s young face, which he had seen recently, came to him. It was exceedingly difficult to imagine any of his other companions nearby while picturing someone being hunted and fleeing.
People like Aster, Sinar, and Teresa all made far too strong an impression to fit that role. Anne, on the other hand, seemed plenty suited to being pursued. That was just how his imagination had shaped it.
Regardless, there was one such child out there. Probably not with red hair, but could someone like that outrun their pursuers, hair bouncing as they ran? That would be like expecting a ghoul to bark.
And yet, the fact remained that this person was clearly evading trackers whose skill at finding people was arguably the best on the continent. If this wasn’t mystical, what else could you call it?
