Make Rem the vice-captain?
“I request that you withdraw this misguided personnel decision immediately.”
That’s what Jacksen would say.
“As God does not permit it, I shall personally carry out the Lord’s will.”
Audin would step forward, fists clenched. And Ragna— Wouldn’t he just start swinging his sword without a word? So the whole vice-captain thing was utterly out of the question, and Enkrid dismissed it entirely. After a few more exchanges, Rem revealed what he’d kept to himself.
He made no effort to hide it.
“Once the western demonic land is gone, everyone will manage to get by on their own. By then, you’ll have lived however you wanted, Captain. As for me, when I’m old, I’ll just be patting my wife’s backside and getting smacked in return while I watch my kid’s antics.”
Uncharacteristically, Rem envisioned his later years with tranquility.
“No plans to drop dead somewhere in between?”
Enkrid asked, intrigued. From the way Rem fought and carried himself, he didn’t exactly seem like a man banking on tomorrow. His outward aura gave that impression too.
But his inner thoughts were different. Rem dreamed of the future. He dreamed of closing the demonic land and looked forward to time with his wife and child.
